Joris Derder is a versatile conductor, singer and vocal coach who relies on many years of experience as a baritone soloist and chorister.

Joris laid his musical foundation as a violinist with various (youth) orchestras. After studying mathematics, he studied singing at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp with Bernadette Degelin. He attended several masterclasses with John Norris, Carol Yahr and Udo Reinemann. Today he is coached by Bart De Kegel.

After graduating with the highest distinction in choral conducting training, he attended masterclasses such as the Kurt Thomas Course Choir and Orchestra Conducting, where he worked with conductors Jos Van Veldhoven, Daniel Reuss and Hans Leenders, among others.

Now, he works as guest conductor with various ensembles, such as the Vlaams Radiokoor, Brussels Philharmonic, Choeur de Radio France, Wiener Kammerchor, Oslo Chorale Selskap, Youth Choir Balsis and many others.

In 2000 he co-founded the Ghent University Choir (GUK) together with a few friends and has been its artistic director ever since. Since 2010, Joris has also been the founder and artistic director of Kamerkoor Koriolis. Joris was vocal coach and co-conductor of BEvocaL, the Belgian National Youth Choir.

As artistic director and baritone at Air4Six, the new Belgian Vocal Sextet, he focuses on contemporary and romantic literature, with a focus on creations and new music.

As a baritone, Joris masters a wide repertoire from Bach's Passions, cantatas and oratorios to the great Romantic and Classical oratorios and song cycles. Joris has already appeared in numerous opera and music theater performances, including the creation of a childcare center at the Flemish Opera.

Joris has been a baritone with the Vlaams Radiokoor since 2005. Joris also collaborates with the Nederlands Kamerkoor conducted by Peter Dijkstra, Cappella Amsterdam conducted by Daniel Reuss and Collegium Vocale Gent conducted by Philippe Herreweghe, Mariss Janssons, Bernard Haitink, Jos Van Immerseel, Marcus Creed, Kaspars Putnins, Paul Hillier, James Wood, and many others. other great contemporary choral and orchestral conductors.
